Who we are

ScottishInventions.com is run by Stephen, an independent publisher based in Glasgow, Scotland. For anything to do with your personal information, email stephen@scottishinventions.com.

What we collect, and why

You can read the whole site without telling us anything. We only collect your email address when you choose to give it to us:

  • The newsletter. If you subscribe, we use your email address to send our weekly email of Scottish stories and news of our card releases. We ask you to confirm by clicking a link before we send anything else.
  • Deck waiting lists. If you ask to be told when a card deck goes on sale, we use your email address to send you that one announcement. This does not sign you up to the newsletter.

Along with your address we record which page you signed up on and when, so we know which articles people find useful. The legal basis for all of this is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Where it is kept

  • Kit (kit.com) stores newsletter subscribers and sends the emails. Kit is based in the United States and processes your data on our behalf under its data processing agreement, which covers international transfers.
  • Our own website database keeps a backup copy of newsletter sign-ups and holds deck waiting lists. It is provided by the site's hosting platform and is not visible to the public.

We do not sell, rent or share your email address with anyone else, and we do not use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only what we need to make sure we never email you again.
  • Deck waiting lists: until the deck goes on sale and for up to 12 months afterwards, then deleted.

Cookies and tracking

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and no tracking scripts run on this site. Some features, such as the quiz and the Fact Machine, remember your progress in your own browser; that information never leaves your device. Emails sent through Kit may record whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can tell which stories readers like.

Your rights

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also email us to see what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and we will do so within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell newsletter subscribers by email first.
